Announcements
Vice President Rusty Ellis presented information about Ernie
Conover. He is an AAW Member that does a 2 day presentation and power point. He
does either the seminar or hands on. The cost is $1200.00 or $600.00 per day.
He is willing to stay with a member during his stay, provided it is a smoke
free home.
Discussion was tabled. Rusty will see if any other clubs are
interested.
Pembroke is having a demonstration in March
The annual club auction will be held at the Nov. 10th
meeting.
Paul Boland, Librarian, reported for new and old members
that there are a lot of books, DVDs, etc. for them to borrow. These wood
turning sources are there for all to enjoy.
Web master
Bree reminded all of her e-mail address. It is included at the top of this
newsletter. She encouraged everyone to look at Eugene Schoalk’s “40 years of
Wood Turning” on the web site. He is a Turners I member and is also on U-Tube.
Communications
President
Hudson passed around a letter from the AAW Director.
Old Business
Informational
E-mails were sent out last month and rejected. The information was on the
by-laws and was handed out to those members whose e-mails didn’t go through.
Barb’s
Barn session on Oct. 2 had 8 people ages 9 years old and up. Good times were
had by all. Thanks to Gary Jones who taught and helped out and to Barb for her
hospitality.
New
Business
Barb is going to have another Barn session on November 13,
from 9:00AM to 3:00PM. Jim Vasi will be training on basic bowl turning. There
will be a $5.00 charge for the wood blanks. Sign up is necessary, as is the
need to know who has a lathe to bring.
The news on Jim Hilburger is encouraging. He seems to be
doing well. He is in rehab now. Jim has been an important part of this club
from the beginning. His willingness to help in any way possible has been a
boost to all who know him. For that reason the Hilburger Award was started in
both Wood Turners I and Wood Turners II.
The Hilburger Award has be given to Gary Jones recently. He
has been a great help to many of the members and is always willing to share his
knowledge and time.
Barb will be hosting another session at her barn in the
spring. Paul Mazuchowski
will be
demonstrating how to do lidded boxes.

DEMO
Bree
Corbett demonstrated acrylic pen turning. She explained the different
acrylics,
hard and soft material. Some of the points made were the acrylics like to be
cut rather than scraped. To finish them you use 220-2000 wet-dry paper, then
220-1200 micro-mesh. Then finish with auto polish. (scratch x-20 plastix)
