WNY WOODTURNERS II
Meetings 7:30 PM; Second Thursday
Presidents Corner by John
O’Neil
I would like to thank Kurt
Hertzog for his years of service to the membership of Woodturners II both as a
great president of our club and as an instructor at our meetings and at Barbs Barn. Kurt you’ll be missed!
May is just around the
corner. This may sound funny with snow
on the ground but time goes by fast. The
club need turnings of all kinds to give to the school staff as a thank you for
letting us meet there free. We won’t
find a deal like that anywhere else. So bring in those gifts and we’ll find a
place to store them. Don’t forget that
the Club is giving $35.00 to the three donators who are picked as winners of
the contest.
The Erie County Fair is
coming and last year we raised a record amount for the local Make-A-Wish
foundation. In the process, we almost ran out of turned items to sell and
needed to make frantic calls for more items.
Again we need donations of turned items to sell so please bring them in
and we’ll store them for the fair.
As the new president and
still a novice turner I will need the help of all the membership for the club
to have a successful year. I will be
calling on many of you for advice and assistance.
Thank You
John
If,
you are receiving a hard copy of this newsletter and have an e-mail address,
please send that address to Kurt Hertzog at KHERTZOG@ROCHESTER.RR.COM. You would then receive the newsletter via
e-mail each month. It would help defer some or the cost the club spends each
month.
President
Kurt Hertzog called meeting to order at 7:30PM. The only guest tonight was Bob
Sonner and friend of Ron Hudson.

Old
Business
Lance
Eggleston gave an update on the show and sale event he proposed last month. He
has done quite a lot of research into such an event and he provided the club
members with a handout explaining the format of the event, place, cost to
vendors, and location. If interested in participating see Lance for details and
copy of handout if you haven’t acquired one yet. They event is planned for the
fall so there will be more information as the time gets closer.
Lance
Eggleston wants to build an outboard lathe and ask for help from any club
member that has any experience in this area.

Hilburger did a demo on production turning. It included the jigs he developed
to turn the items he demoed, his techniques in turning them and information on
how to turn successfully. The items he turned were: snowmen, tops, toothpick holders, chain
pulls, and bottle corks. He also stressed the importance of turning with a
sharp tool and his way to sharpen tools quickly. As usual, Jim’s put on and
entertaining and very informative demo. Thank you, Jim, for sharing all your
skill and enthusiasm for turning.
ELMER’S CORNER:
Here’s one
I found in Woodsmith. Carabiner Tool Organizer
Rummaging
through a tool box or shop drawer to find the right wrench is always a
challenge. Here is a better way to organize wrenches. Use carabiners. They come
in a wide variety of sizes and colors, and they can be found many places. A
small carabiner connected to a large one will hold a full set of wrenches. Plus
the spring-loaded openers make sure the wrenches stay put, while making it easy
to remove the one needed. Also, since they come in many colors, you could use
one color for standard wrenches and one for your metric set.
Respectfully
submitted,
Muriel
Kummer
