Vice President’s Report

Ron will be going to the AAW Symposium March 31-April 1. Anyone interested in going and sharing gas and expenses should contact him.

Please let Ron know if anyone has suggestions on demonstrations they would be interested in seeing.

Ron would appreciate anyone interested in helping him get demonstators.

Librarian’s Report

Paul has purchased three new videos for the library. They are all very informational. Please check them out.

The librarian position is open for anyone interested in helping the club get the most up to date and informational videos and books. If you are interested, let Paul or Ron know.

Communications

A letter was received from the Mid South Woodturners. They have lost a good member, Joan Gilmer Kelly to an accident while working on her lathe. They have collected and are distributing $100.00 grants for a safety shield to be used on demonstration lathes. They have also compiled a safety check list. Brian will make copies of this list and pass them out at the next meeting.

Because of the above communication, it was suggested that it might be a good idea to have a session on lathe safety, and other safety issues.

A letter has been sent to all AAW members regarding several insurance policies that are available. If you didn’t get the letter and are interested let Ron know.

Tom Baker did a TV video on Breast Cancer Awareness in men. If any organization is interested, there are a group of men who will come and give a talk on this issue.

Old Business

Dues should be in by February.

Last month it was decided the president should request a grant for a new lathe and some repair parts for 2 existing lathes. Ron sent in the request on January 6, 2012. The request was to be in by Janurary 15. The request is for $841.35. The items to be purchased from the Rockler Store II @ a discount are as follows:

#23361 Jet 1014vs @ $529.99 for $450.49

#20761 Talon Chuck @ $206.99 for $155.25

#20777 ˝ Drill Chuck @ $31.49 for $23.62

#20793 #2 Mores Taper # $15.99 for $11.99

In addition $200.00 for repair parts

We will be notified within 2-3 months. Regardless, we can re-apply for grants every year for up to $1,500.00 max.

Ron will be contacting other clubs to see if there would be any interest in a joint turning session sometime during the spring or summer.

New Business

Brian has asked that anyone bringing something in for show and tell please fill out the sign-up sheet with name, type of wood and item. It will help when doing the minutes and would be greatly appreciated.

Brian has also made several copies of the by-laws. Anyone wanting one just ask.

As a reminder to all members, the fair is coming up fast. Please start turning for the fair. The Make a Wish Foundation really appreciates what we do for them.
