Next
month’s demo will be a short talk on segmented work by Rick Lawrence.
Librarian’s
Report
Paul was to
check into a brochure received at the last meeting about some woodworking
videos for the library to purchase. After much discussion on 2 different
packages, Rusty moved to purchase the package that had information on piercing
and 2 videos on hollowing. The cost would be $30.00 plus $6.00 for shipping.
Brian seconded the motion. The motion was passed.
Communications
Pamphlets and
applications for membership were received from the AAW. There is a membership
drive in progress. Anyone interested in helping with the membership drive can
possibly be invited to the symposium in California. Speak with Ron for more
information.
Old Business
The
training class held at Barb’s Barn in December, taught by Jim Vasey, was a
great success. All had a good time with 3 mentors assisting and 10 turners.
Everyone had a lathe to use with 2 lathes borrowed from Rocklers. Each participant
took home the bowl they turned.
Thanks
will be sent to Rockler and Ed Jolls for their loan of 2 lathes used at Barb’s
training session.
Dues
for the year are due in February.
New
Business
Our
president was brainstorming.(Dangerous, I know) He came up with the possibility
of a joint turning session with Woodturners I. He thought that the picnic area
used for the family picnic in the summer might be a good place to do this. Some
additional advertising for this session could be used to bring in new members,
or just some interested bystanders. Ron will check into this further.
Because 2
lathes were borrowed for the bowl turning session, it was suggested that the
club should look into acquiring at least 1 new lathe. Jake suggested that we
look into the possibility of a grant from the AAW. A motion was made, seconded
and passed the Ron apply for the grant to buy a new lathe. He will check into
the grant application process and work on it.
There is
also a monthly newsletter that comes out from American Woodworkers that has
projects to work on at home. You do have to be a member, though to get the
information.
Mark
Baczkowski has acquired some Burle wood. He also has some dried Butternut.
Anyone interested in purchasing some should talk to Mark.

DEMO
We were
shown how to make Christmas ornaments. The demonstration was enjoyed by all.
