ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Vice President,
Jake Debski announced there was one spot left on Sat May 12th for the Bill Grumbine workshop.
May demo
will be by Bill Grumbine on “the Evil skew and
spindle turning”.
A big thank you to Paul Mazuchowski and Jim
Hilburger, for presenting the demo at the last minute.
Old
Business
An update on the Kids Hands –on Day at Barbs’s
Barn with Bob Rosand: 5 youngsters have signed on so
far. Bard is looking for a few more young turners. The date is June 9. See Barb
if you know any young person who is interested in learning to turn.
Barb asked
if the club could purchase spigot jaws for the club lathes stored at her barn.
A motion was made by Barb; seconded by Mary; and passed.
Remember to
bring in your gift items to donate to the school. Every year we make gifts to
be given to the school personnel to thank them for the use of the building.
Remember the top 3 get $35.00 each for their efforts. We will vote on these at
the June meeting.
Show and
Tell
Paul Mazuchowski: 8 oak kazoos; vase and flowers
Ned Evans: oak leg 29” long
Rich Mialki: pear & walnut goblet; 5 pens with veneer
Ron Hudson: 50 hickory & mahogany toothpick holders
Pat Delmonte:
Jake Debski: band saw sled for logs
Paul Boland: cherry bowl
Lance Eggleston: spalted maple bowl with copper
& gold fill
Gerald Rucker: 16 mini vases with painted flowers on them
Rockler: Pat Delmonte
Craft
Supply: Lance Eggleston
50/50: Pat Delmonte
Paul Mazuchowski and Jim Hilburger filled in at the last minute
and showed the club how to make kazoos and refrigerator magnets. I heard it was
very well done and enjoyed by all. Again these are items that sell great at the
fair.
ELMER’S CORNER: Never a Dull Pencil
Here’s one
I found in this months American Woodworker. Precise marks are one key to
accurate cuts. Rather than mounting pencil sharpeners
all around the shop, just stick 120-grit PSA-backed sandpaper wherever you need
a sharp pencil: such as both end of the workbench, next to the miter saw, on
top of the tablesaw rip fence, etc.
Respectfully
submitted,
Muriel Kummer
