WNY WOODTURNERS II
Meetings 7:30 PM; Second Thursday
President’s Corner by John O’Neil
The June
meeting is here, please don’t forget the gifts for the school employees. As of
today we only have a few items and we need many more. This year we have a gift contest with prizes
for the winners. Remember we have a deal
at the school for our meetings that can’t be beat so lets show them what good
and generous turners we are.
Due to the
school being closed for the summer I’ll be asking for members to volunteer to
hold those meeting in their shops. The
dates for those meetings are Thursday July 12, and Thursday August 9, 2007 and
anyone willing to have a group of itinerant wood turners on those dates can
speak up at the June meeting.
One last
request don’t forget donations for the county fair, we’ll need a lot more
turnings to meet our goal.
Take care
John

Bill
Grumbine, our guest demonstrator, showed us techniques using the skew and how
to duplicate when spindle turning. It
was a very informative demo and I think we all got something out of his
demonstration.
ELMER’S CORNER: Here’s one I found in American
Woodwroker magazine, which was submitted by Jim Vasi a member of club 1,
titled “easy pen assembly.”
Press
fitting pen part requires a deft touch, but you don’t need a special clamp or
vise to do the job. The lathe and a pair of 1 ˝ -in-thick hardwood blocks can
do the trick. Each block has a 1-in –deep hole drilled in it, sized to fit
snugly over the lathe’s headstock and tailstock spindles, Remove both lathe
centers and slip on the blocks. Mark the center of each block so you can
precisely align the pen parts. Hold each part in place and carefully advance
the tailstock.
Respectfully
submitted,
Muriel
Kummer
