President’s Report
The demonstrations
for the next coming months are varied:
June- Gary
Jones will make jewelry and do some buffing
July – will
be at the home of Pat DelMonte
August –
will be the club picnic
Sept. –
ideas are requested for mini-demos
Librarian’s
Report
The job of
Librarian has been passed onto Brian Defoe. But, because Brian is also the
secretary, anyone interested in taking on this position, should talk to Brian
or Paul.
Communications
Ron
e-mailed and read the letter from the AAW regarding the grant submitted in the
amount of $844.35. Our request was granted and a check for $850.00 has been
received.
Old Business
The
August 23rd meeting will be held at the Nicodemus Church shelter on
Lideria Rd. in Marilla @4:30PM. Meat, rolls and beverage will be provided by the
club. Pat Boggan has a sign up sheet for those interested in attending. People
attending should bring a dish to pass. It should be a fun time.
There
is also a sign-up sheet for anyone interested in volunteering their time at the
fair. Volunteers and hand made donations are needed.
Brian
Effenger brought in some kits to make the decorating tool he demonstrated at
the last meeting. Anyone interested in purchasing a kit for $20.00 contact
Brian Effenger. He also mentioned that Doug Fisher will be doing a daylong
demonstration at the Pembroke High School on July 28 from 9AM to 4:30PM. There
will be a 1 hour lunch break. There will also be door prizes and a 50/50
drawing. There will be a $20.00 charge at the door for adults. Students are
admitted free.
Hand
made donations are needed for the school personnel to show our appreciation for
the use of the school room throughout the school year.
New
Business
At the
Dec., 2011 meeting a motion was made, seconded and passed that a grant be made
to the AAW for a new lathe. On January 6, 2012 Ron sent the request in to the
AAW. The grant was approved and a check in the amount of $850.00 was received.
Now that we have the money to buy some much needed items, we must decide on
what and how the money will be spent. The items listed on the grant are:
#23361 Jet
1014vs @$529.99 for $450.49
#20761
Talon Chuck @ $206.99 for $155.25
#20777 ˝
Drill Chuck @ $31.49 for $23.62
#20793 #2
Mores Taper @ $15.99 for $11.99
In addition
$200.00 for repair parts
It was
suggested that we might contact the Jet company directly for parts for the old
lathes. There might be a discount when going that route. Research will have to
be done to find the most economical path to take. Further discussion will be in
order.
A Delta Lathe
was suggested instead of the Jet 1014. A discussion on the pros and cons of the
two lathes followed ending in a motion made by Pat Boggan that a price
comparison be done. The motion was seconded by Brian Defoe. The motion carried.
Pat
DelMonte will have directions to his house for the July meeting made up and
distributed at the next meeting. Anyone interested in coming early is welcome.
(4:00 and after)
Rockler’s
has given the club 3 free gift certificates in accordance with the member

DEMO
Ron Hudson
made ring holders for his demonstration. These items can be made out of small
pieces of wood, so it’s a good way to use up even expensive pieces of wood.
It’s definitely useful and interesting information. Thanks Ron.
Respectfully
submitted,
Brian R.
Defoe, Secretary
