WNY WOODTURNERS II
Meetings 7:30 PM; Second Thursday
The President’s Corner by Kurt
Hertzog
Our next
meeting brings the annual elections. We have candidates for all of the required
offices except President. The Webmasters position is open and is part of our
officer structure but not required by the AAW to maintain our AAW Chapter
status. I had planned to step aside from both offices because we had a
candidate for President that expressed interest in the job. That has since
changed and we are left without a candidate. The easy thing to do would to
volunteer to run again. It’s an easy job having done it here for several years
and in other organizations. Rather than take the easy way out, I’d like to see
the organization come up with a new candidate. We’ve tried for quite some time
to obtain a candidate but to no avail. Rather than tapping those who have done
their turn, why can’t we find someone new to bring in some fresh ideas? If a
group of 70 individuals can’t find one willing volunteer, perhaps we should
cash it in.
There are
several upcoming events to mention. The weekend of October 14 and 15 has two
area events. The Totally Turning Symposium is being held in
Thanks,
Kurt

Kurt did a
very comprehensive demo on sanding and sand paper. He explained the need for
perfection in sanding and preparation to get a good finish on your wood
project. He demonstrated various techniques of sanding both hand and mechanical.
Thank you Kurt for a very informative demo.
Here’s one
I found in American Woodworker magazine: Freshness date for finish. To
avoid the risk of using a finish that is too old and having to redo do it
because it won’t dry properly, date the can of finish when you open it. That
way you know how old the finish is at a glance. If the finish is over a year
old test it before you use it on a project. After 2 years has past, it’s
freshness has expired.
Respectfully
submitted,
Muriel
Kummer
