borrowed any videos, and are done watching them, PLEASE bring them back. John
Chevanne has volunteered to be the temporary librarian. The library now has a
DVD of channel 4’s interview of Bob Ball, Gary Jones, and Pepper Weinheimer at
the fair.
If you have
a piece of wood for” Carving for Cause” and have the bowl finished, bring it to
the meeting. Pat and Rick will be collecting them this month. The auction for these
pieces will be held on the 12th of Oct. If you can’t make it to the
meeting contact: Carving for Cause” at this e-mail address: Carving for Cause.com
FYI: The
Pembroke Turners Club has planned a trip to Olean to visit West Penn Hardwoods
on Saturday, Oct. 18. If you are interested in purchasing any wood from West
Penn, they are meeting there at 10AM. It includes lunch (pizza and soft drink),
and usually a club discount on your purchase. West Penn is moving to another
location so Rocky is happy to not have to move his entire inventory, and he has
a very large turning inventory. Let Rich Mialki know if you are planning on
being there.
I received
an e-mail from a gentleman in Perrysburg, NY that has a few standing black
walnut trees he wants to harvest. He asks if any artisan would be interested in
the wood. If so e-mail him at Doug and Geri Aird at: dgaird@aird.us

John O’Neil
did a demo on doing resin inlays on turning projects to enhance them to make
clear wood more interesting. He used epoxy found in your local hardware store
and coloring ingredients found in your shop and home, such as wood dust, chalk,
and liquid shoe polish, to make the inlays. Thank You John for giving us one
more way to make our turning better.
ELMER’S CORNER:
Found in Woodworker’s Journal:
Rake in the shavings.
Use a small
garden rake to clean up that big pile of fluffy or wet shaving after a day or
evening of turning. It does a better job than the broom with less effort and
the tines don’t wear out as quickly as a broom.
Respectfully
submitted,
Muriel
Kummer
