President’s Report
(2)
We will be
doing a safety check with Barb and Jerry at the next meeting. This is an
important program. Safety in turning should be the number one priority.
We are
still looking for people to do demonstrations. We would like to have mini
presentations of about 5 minutes long.
Librarian’s
Report
There have
been no new purchases. As you all know, the librarian carries to each meeting a
selection of videos and DVDs related to woodworking and woodturning that members
can borrow.
We are
still looking for a person to fill the office of Librarian.
Communications
September
16th there will be another session at Barb’s Barn. This one will be
Ray Besne doing off centered turning. Pat Delmonte signed up for the session, but
he has to back out. He is willing to pay for someone else to take his place.
This is short notice, but cannot be helped.
We received
information from Barb Berger regarding the session at Barb’s Barn. It is a
beginners’ course to be led by Gary Jones, on Sunday, Sept. 30.beginning at
8:30 AM. Call Barb or e-mail her if you would like to be included.
A request
has been made to ask each club to donate face shields for these sessions. A
motion was made, seconded and passed that 3 face shields be purchased.
Pat will go
to Rockler’s for the purchase.
We received
an e-mail from Lyle Jamison regarding a new DVD called “In-depth Hollowing
Techniques”. He is offering this DVD for $15.00 to clubs for use. Motion made,
seconded and moved to purchase the DVD.
AAW sent a
number of applications for members, new and renewed. You receive 6 magazines a
year. There is also a number of benefits with the membership, one of which is
insurance coverage during club activities. It is $53.00. Grants are also
available each year for accepted projects.
Old Business
Rich
gave a report on the fair. The fair went very nicely. 84 people worked on the
porch doing sales and turning. The raffle brought $576.00. The tree was won by
Dee Massier. Two wishes were granted through our efforts. One was for Jonathan,
5 years old, and the other for Annabelle, 6 years old. We received 2 plaques
for these wishes. We want to thank Lyle Cole who is 92 years old. He was
instrumental in starting this project. We would also like to thank Pepper and
South Towns Woodcarvers for allowing us to use the porch for this project.
Jerry
Mominee from Make a Wish came and explained how the make a wish program began.
It started in 1992 here in this area. This chapter joined the WNY group a short
time ago. Because of the number of wishes (155 wishes per year) and the amount
needed for each wish (over $7000.00 per wish), the larger group was necessary.
If you get a chance, check into the history of Make A Wish. It will do your
heart good.

Working
at the fair this year brought in a new record amount. This year we earned
$18,040.34!!!! Thank you to all, workers and donors.
New
Business
Nominations
for the next year are open. Anyone interested in any office should let Ron
know.
On
Saturday, October 6th, Clubs I and II will be bringing in Andy Cole
from Hawaii. The cost is $20.00 at the door. The demonstration will be held at
the Pembroke High School. He will be doing some naturalized bowls and sunny
side up eggs?? Sounds yummy. The session runs from 9:00 AM to about 4:30 PM.
This should be a really good session. He is looking for 2” to 16” fresh logs to
use for the demo. If you have something to contribute, please contact Brian
Efinger.
Also, there
will be another session at Barb’s Barn on October 7. Andy Cole will be giving a
hands-on class in turning bowls. Anyone interested should contact Barb.
